About RSS

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a way to tell interesting websites to alert you when something has been added — similar to receiving an email or phone call. The good thing about RSS feeds is, you decide which feeds to subscribe to, so you are always in control of the information.

For instance, if you “subscribe” to the WinMarkets Blogs Feed, each time we add a new article, you will receive a notification in your RSS reader. If you are interested in that article, simply click on the title and you will see a brief description — click again and you will be taken to the specific page on our site with the full article!

What is an RSS Reader / News Aggregator?

An RSS reader (sometimes called a News Aggregator) is a web-based, PC-based or Mac-based tool designed for subscribing to, reading and managing your RSS or Atom feeds, much like an email program is used to read and manage your emails. An RSS reader allows you to subscribe to news feeds and then alert you only when there is something new on the site to read.

Web-Based Readers

If you would like to read RSS feeds on the web, with your web browser, then a tool such as Bloglines (Free) or Google's RSS Reader (Free) should work well for your needs. FireFox, a free browser for Windows, Macintosh and Linux can natively read and manage RSS feeds. Safari RSS on Mac OS X 10.4+ (Tiger+) also handles RSS feeds natively.

PC-Based Readers

To read and manage your RSS feeds on a Windows PC, we suggest FeedReader (Free), NewsGator (Free) or FeedDemon ($29.95).

Mac-Based Readers

To read and manage your RSS feeds on a Macintosh, we suggest NetNewsWire ($24.95) and NetNewsWire Lite (Free), PulpFiction ($25.00) or NewsFire ($18.99).
