Interruptus Horribilus? Maybe not...
In Ars Technica, John Timmer has an interesting piece on effectiveness and work interruption. Turns out that having huge uninterrupted time to complete a task isn’t the holy grail after all - and interruptions aren’t the awful derailer that we thought they were.
A new study published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication suggests that, contrary to expectations, the user of an Instant Messaging (IM) client actually has the opposite effect, allowing workers to manage their interruptions more efficiently.
